Spoiler ▼▲
Eggman whilst searching for Chaos Emeralds comes across a Phantom Ruby. He finds out it's more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds, and decides to take it to his lair to use it for his long awaited invention, Infinite. Infinite's power was also able to create duplicates of a stronger prototype Death Egg Robot Eggman had as a side project. Infinite also reprogrammed Metal Sonic, resurrected both Chaos and Zavok, hypnotized Shadow and shut down all power in the city.
Eggman dropped off the Death Egg Robots in the city to start causing mayhem, and let Infinite and his crew go loose. Whilst most people had been evacuated, Sonic had to go to stop everything as soon as possible whilst his friends helped others evacuate the city. Sonic encounters Shadow and crew, and gets BTFO'd by Infinite. Before Infinite could finish off Sonic, Tails and some pedestrians, Classic Sonic falls out of a portal and lands on Infinite. Infinite and crew decide to leave, whilst Classic Sonic and a character who will be your OC help bring SOnic and other people back to base.
Your OC has signed up to join the newly formed resistance. Once Knuckles provides him with the gear to take on enemies, you're put on your first mission in Park Avenue.
After Sonic has recovered after some time, he is willing to help team up with your OC to take on Metal Sonic. Classic Sonic on the other hand is sent out by Tails to destroy Egg Pawn generators in the city.
Sonic and your OC take on Metal Sonic, who's going to destroy the bridge to stop people from getting out of the city. Once Metal Sonic is defeated, Sonic fist bumps your OC and tells him how awesome of a team they are.
Infinite retaliates to Classic Sonic threatening him by turning the ocean in Green Hill Zone into sand. Classic Sonic is infuriated by this, and chases down Infinite and the Egg Fleet to Green Hill Zone.
Knuckles suggests to Sonic and your OC that it's best to go look out for Classic Sonic, as it's dangerous for him to go alone. Sonic and your OC go different paths through Green Hill to find him, but to no luck cannot find him. Knuckles is willing to send reinforcements, but Sonic and your OC decide to tag together to find out where Classic had gone off to, and they assume he's headed to the pyramid.
Meanwhile all this time Classic SOnic was in a different place of Green Hill and had fought the Egg Dragoon. After defeating the Egg Dragoon, Classic is defeated by Chaos and is held captive in the Egg Dragoon's tail.
After your OC goes looking inside of the Pyramid, the Egg Dragoon with Classic Sonic inside brakes in and your OC has to battle it.
After defeating the Egg Dragoon, Sonic has to take on Chaos, who has been made stronger with a Phantom Shard in this membrane.
Infinite finds Sonic and friends as soon as they are shutting down the power in the Pyramid, and decides to make the place crumble as the three of them try to escape. Unfortunately there is no fun escape level to follow this.
Turns out Eggman was spotted on Sky Sanctuary to drain all of it's energy to power his Egg Fleets. Tails rides Sonic and company up there to go stop him.
After Sonic's stage, your OC notices Infinite off in the distance. Infinite approaches your OC, threatening him not to be involved with "a conflict between me and the evil"
Classic Sonic has to destroy canons that are shooting down platforms and clouds in his stage.
In a cutscene where Sonic, Tails and your OC are walking together, Tails is getting jealous because Sonic is acting more cool and buddy like with your OC. He starts acting all tsundere.
After a tag team stage, Sonic is approached by Shadow who is told to give up and that his new friend (your OC) is weak. Before Sonic could retaliate, Shadow Chaos controls out of the area. Suddenly, your OC falls from a crumbling platform, and Sonic is forced to fight against a prototype replica of Mecha Sonic. All whilst Sky Sanctuary starts to crumble to pieces.
After that battle, they all return to base. Sonic and Tails get in some argument for some reason, and Tails starts talking about how Classic Sonic treats him with more respect than Sonic. Your OC is trying to break up the fight, but it leads to Tails running off crying.
Sonic feels bad for upsetting Tails, so he has to go look for where he went. Some how Sonic ends up getting lost in some forest, which he discovers has already been taken over by EggMan.
Sonic manages to finally get to talk to Infinite and learns his name. They do not fight just yet though, because Infinite wants to "give time for the blue pest to be afraid of the Infinite power I have"
Tails feels bad for getting angry at both Sonic and your OC, and is helping your OC and Classic Sonic go search for Sonic, whilst investigating this forest. Your OC and Classic Sonic tag team through the forest in one stage, before splitting up. Classic Sonic going towards the casino area whilst your OC delves further into the forest.
Your OC encounters Shadow, who takes on your OC to "get it done and over with"
When your OC wins, Shadow is no longer corrupted. He has, however weakened and cannot move easily. Sonic manages to find your OC and bring Shadow back to base. SOnic is super pissed at both EggMan and Infinite for doing this to Shadow.
Eggman interrupts all broadcast frequency to record a message about the Death Egg launch, that will be able to destroy the world. The only way they can get access to teleporters to the Death Egg is by visiting the closed off Techno City. In order to get there though, they will have to infiltrate Chemical Plant to get rid of Techno City's toxic chemical layer.
After clearing Chemical Plant and defeating the Egg Beetle Mk 2 boss, the toxic chemical layer is down and you can now access the abandoned Techno City.
In Techno City, Classic Sonic must use his skills to grant access to the other half of the city. He gets sucked into a screen and has to complete 16 bit looking short versions of Marble Zone, Lava Reef and for some reason Leaf Forest from Sonic Advance 2.
Your OC is approached by Infinite once more, this time Sonic gets involved but Infinite teleports away.
After a tag team, Sonic and OC stage, you have to fight Zavok who's blocking off the teleporters to the Death Egg with mirages of the other Deadly Six members. (After playtesting, I can confirm that this boss is annoying as fuck. Mirages keep getting in the way and shit)
Once Sonic and crew manage to get to the Death Egg, Tails shows everyone a bomb which he is going to plant inside of the main engine of the place. He needs your OC to help him do that. Your OC agrees, whilst Sonic and Classic Sonic help clear the area for the rest of the resistance to take charge.
Before the bomb could be placed, Eggman stops everyone in their tracks. Eggman is in a mech suit powered by a Phantom Ruby shard. Everyone, including Sonic, Your OC and Classic Sonic have to take him on.
When Eggman is defeated, Infinite talks about how pathetic Eggman and his army was all along. Eggman gets up and says "Well Infinite, at least I didn't witness getting destroyed in another dimension, like how I found you!"
Infinite starts getting painful flashbacks to something we can't tell, and he gets pissed. He starts firing lasers all over the place, destroying the Death Egg altogether. Infinite stares at your OC and says "We're settling this, on earth" before teleporting.
The resistance gather in a big open wasteland, where Infinite stands. They stare at Infinite silently, Infinite stares back. The radio frequencies start going hay wire, before a message plays in Infinite's voice.
"Give me everything, everything you've got, Sonic The Hedgehog"
Fist Bump instrumental plays.
Everyone charges at Infinite.
The first phase of boss is Classic Sonic. He has to avoid laser strikes and bounce of balls of energy to hit them back at Infinite to weaken his shielding.
The next phase is Sonic running after Infinite, whilst avoiding laser shots and also homing attacking energy balls to fire them back at Infinite. Finishing this phase triggers a memory from Infinite's past, showing Sonic looking down on Infinite on the ground, with an evil look on his face. Infinite is screaming at this point.
Next phase is with your OC, fighting against an out of control Infinite who's rapidly firing energy balls and lasers, along with explosive energy balls that have chance of tiring out Infinite.
Infinite is weak now on the ground. Before Sonic and your OC can charge at him, Infinite's mask brakes off. This reveals to be a white fox who looks older than Tails. He's gets more sudden memories of your OC trying to save him before an evil looking Sonic could destroy him. Infinite starts crying, with SOnic and your OC looking in absolute confusion.
"I... I need.... I NEED TO RID OF THIS EVIL HEDGEHOG"
The ground begins to shake, and Infinite, Sonic and Your OC are teleported to another place that is unknown.
Infinite, Sonic and your OC are now in some void created by the Phantom Ruby, unknown location. Infinite is shouting as he starts to gain more power. Another portal opens up however, revealing to be Classic Tails and Classic Knuckles. They throw the Chaos Emeralds from their dimensions over to Sonic. Your OC and Sonic turn super, and the final boss begins.
The boss has you avoiding obstacles pulled out of random portals thrown at your at high speed, along with bigger lasers and a thousand energy balls. There are also parts where when Infinite is weakened, you can perform a double boost charge into him.
Meanwhile this boss fight is happening, Infinite is going on about how he wishes he could destroy the hedgehog who killed him, wishes his best friend was partnering with his biggest enemy, and how he wants to bring suffering to Sonic in the harshest way possible, whilst scream crying of course.
The last part of the fight has Sonic and your OC double boost to catch Infinite before he reaches the end and closes off the portal.
When defeated, the three of them are teleported to a white void and Infinite begins to fade away. Your OC suddenly realizes what Infinite was talking about earlier and gets memories from the dimension Infinite was from.
Despite Sonic saying to your OC not to leave, your OC fades away with Infinite's weakened body. Sonic is sent back through a portal back to the open field the resistance was at.
Everyone is saddened by the fact that your OC is gone for good, and a statue is built to remember him in the city center. Eggman surrenders and gives drops the Phantom Ruby, letting Tails send Classic Sonic back to his dimension.
At night Sonic looks up in the night sky and puts his fist out.
"One last fist bump, buddy"
